Beaminster

March 30, 2008

Beaminster is a small town in South Dorset, situated at the head of the valley of the River Brit where several smaller tributaries join. Beaminster’s streets follow the rough lines of many of these streams, when the roads were formed many of these streams flowed over-ground and not,as most do now, flow underground.

Like many of Dorset’s town, Beaminster was a traditional market town, with a market on a Thursday. The centre of the town, houses predominantly 18th and 19th century architecture, the town having suffered several major fire incidents in the past, some 17th century buildings on the fringes of the town survives these fires.
