Blandford

March 30, 2008

Blandford Forum is the ‘capital’ town of North Dorset, housing the North Dorset District Council offices.

Blandford is renowned for its lagely intact and original Georgian facade in the town centre, and is perhaps the finest example of its kind having been completely rebuilt following the ‘Great Fire of Blandford’ in 1731.

Blandford offers a range of shopping opportunities with Argos, Woolworths, WH Smith and a host of smaller businesses located in the town centre, as well as a Somerfield supermarket on its fringes.

Further out of the town and technically located in the neighbouring village of Blandford-St-Mary are a Tesco and Homebase store. Blandford-St-Mary also houses the renowed Hall and Woodhouse brewery.

Tourist Attractions in Blandford Forum:

* Blandford Museum - Records the history of Blandford through from the Stone Age to the present day.
* Cavalcade of Costume Museum - An extensive collection of period costumes and dress.
* Royal Signals Museum
