Bournemouth

March 30, 2008

Bournemouth buzzes by day and night with everything from restaurants to live entertainment venues and a whole programme of events for every age group from toddlers to OAPs.

Now in its 111th year, Flowers by Candlelight is one of the towns best-loved traditions. At the free event, hosted in Bournemouth Gardens, visitors and locals light 15,000 coloured candles arranged into the shapes of animals, objects and cartoon characters. On Wednesdays throughout August (excluding August 29) thousands flock to the gardens just before dusk to transform the greenery into a sparkling and enchanted oasis.

Once the candles are lit children can take part iin a candlelight procession.

Another highlight of the summer months is the 2CR FM fireworks displays. On Friday nights from July 27 until the end of August the skies above the seafront provide the canvas for the spectacular summer Skyshow.

At 10pm fireworks are launched from Bournemouth Pier and thousands of people descend onto the sands or stand on the cliff tops to watch. Out in the bay hundreds of boats and yachts are moored, their lights sparkling, for perhaps the best views of all.

There’s also music - and lots of it. The Bournemouth Live festival, running from June 24 to July 1, will keep every toe in the town tapping with music from marching bands to jazz and blues. Sit back in the sun and soak up the tunes.

Or if classical is more your style the BSO Classical Proms is an amazing musical event held in Meyrick Park from August 3-4. Not only will it be music to your ears, but your eyes are in for a treat as it culminates in a fantastic fireworks extravaganza.

With Bournemouth Carnival (July 30), mobile Funderworld Theme Park (August 10 - September 1), Red Arrows Air Display in August and much, much, more, rest assured that whenever you come to Bournemouth, boredom is not an option.
