Ferndown

ntroduction

Ferndown is located at a latitude of 50° 47’ 59” North and a longitude of 1° 53’ 59” West. The distance between Ferndown and Bournemouth is 8.1 kilometers. The largest settlement in East Dorset district is Ferndown. The population is 16,000. It is thought that the name is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word ‘fiergen’ which means “wooded hill.” Ferndown is a modern town. Much of the prosperity came from Bournemouth and Poole. There is a sports center which has squash courts and a swimming pool, playing fields and a sophisticated shopping complex. In Ferndown, the Ferndown Drama Group and the Ferndown Phoenix Music Society are very popular.

Sports and Garden

The Ferndown Golf club provides several facilities like Club Bar, Tea and Coffee, Bar Snacks, Dinner, Lunch, Trolley Hire, Buggy Hire, Club Hire, Pro Shop and Changing rooms. Several professional tournaments have been competed over the years at the Championship Old Course. This course furnishes a challenge to golfers of all abilities. Precision and absorption are required to overcome the natural hazards at the 9-hole President’s course. The Ferndown Forest Golf Club is an 18-hole Pay and Play course.

Meandering streams and mature trees make it very attractive. There are changing rooms with showering facilities in the changing rooms. The Driving Range is 20 bay covered and floodlit. The Forest Golf Shop offers competitive prices for goods like balls, bags, trolleys, clothing, golf shoes and accessories. The Lyn and Malcolm’s Garden is situated nearly one kilometer from the center of the town and five kilometers from the sea. There are lilies, roses, ferns, hostas, hardy geranium and clematis. There are also exotic varieties like Cannas, Agave, Oleander and Bougainvillea.

Accommodation and Transport

For bed and breakfast, there are two options in Ferndown. The Kimberley House Bed & Breakfast is located on Ringwood Road. The Smugglers Cottage can be found on Wimborne Road East. The former one is also a Hotel. The other hotel is The Dormy Hotel and is situated on the New Road. On the Ringwood Road in Ferndown, the Bridge House Hotel can be found. To reach it, it is required to trace the M27/A31 through Ringwood from Southampton. Then, on the A348, start in the direction of Poole. This Hotel is on the left side. There are 33 bedrooms of which many have river views. All the rooms have en-suite facilities, television, tea and coffee making equipment, telephone, ironing devices and hairdryers.

The hotel provides special prices on long stays, single rooms, double rooms, feature bedroom and dinner, bed and breakfast. Abacus Car, Van, Minibus, Truck and Trailer Hire is situated in the Ferndown industrial estate. There are about 300 vehicles which cover the gamut of vehicles like vans, minibuses, economy size cars, trucks and refrigerated trailers. The Land Sea Air Events is located on the Golf Links Road. It is an executive transport on sea, land or air. They are also event organizers for corporate events.

The Wayside Transport Company has a very high success rate in training of all types of Heavy vehicle license like PCV, LGV, HIAB and Buses. All the instructors are registered by the DSA and teach on a 1 to 1 basis.
